We are committed to providing education, services and advocacy that supports the responsible keeping of hens in Davidson County.
As people grow more concerned about the economy, the environment, and food safety, UCAN members work to support the growing interest in producing our own food by raising chickens for eggs. With a strong focus on all things local, the recent legalization of urban chicken-keeping will continue to establish Nashville as a progressive leader in the national local food movement.
UCAN was officially organized in the Fall of 2010 to help educate the community about the benefits of keeping urban laying hens, to advocate for changes in local zoning laws to allow, and encourage citizens to keep hens in a healthy, responsible manner. UCAN partnered with Community Food Advocates, which is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose mission is to end hunger and create a healthy, just, and sustainable food system. All contributions are tax deductible for federal income tax purposes.
